- Today, we tried to do something to improve our situation in the GC, and Jesper Hansen did a few attacks in the final, as we planned. Yeah, in the end he was able to move to one position up to 9th place. Well, I think we have spent a very nice week in Catalunya and a huge work has been done here. Almost all riders from this roster just finished the training camp on the altitude and here in this race it was important to get some racing kilometers before the next goals of the season, - said sports director Bruno Cenghialta.
Simon Yates won the final stage from a late breakaway after a solo attack on Montjuïc. Marc Soler finished second 13 seconds later. Pierre Latour won the sprint from a GC contenders group for third place, 18 seconds behind the stage winner. Jesper Hansen was in this group and finished 11th.
The Spanish rider Alejandro Valverde became the final winner of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya 2018. The race podium was completed by the Colombian Nairo Quintana and the French rider Pierre Latour. As it was said, Jesper Hansen of Astana did 9th in the overall classification.
- I think, I can be happy with my result. In this race I did all I could. It was a good race for me, I was improving day by day and now I hope to keep or even improve some more for my next race – Vuelta al Pais Vasco, - said Jesper Hansen.
