Solo victory after 25 km in breakaway celebrated the Russian rider Artem Ovechkin, who also becomes the new overall leader of the race.
Evgeniy Gidich and nine other riders attacked about 15 km before the finish, but they didn’t managed to catch the Russian rider.
- Ovechkin was really strong today. In addition, we didn’t find the coordinated work in our group of pursuers. I also was trying to go alone from my group, but other riders always controlled my attacks. I’m very grateful to my team – guys made a good job in the climb, worked to catch the first breakaway and helped to attack with the group of pursuers. For now we have more three stages to go and we will try to fight for the stage victories and finish this race on the final overall podium, - explained Evgeniy Gidich after the finish.
After today’s stage Kazakh rider rises to the 5th place of the GC, 1’07 behind the new race leader and only in 8 seconds far from the podium.
Astana Pro Team rider Riccardo Minali also won the intermediate sprint in the beginning of the stage and keeps his green jersey of the Best sprinter.
Tomorrow is the shortest stage of the 23rd edition of Le Tour de Langkawi with 108,5 km of the race between Tapah and Tanjung Malim.
