Nine riders escaped from the beginning of the stage and earned during the day maximum advantage of more than 7 minutes over the main bunch.
Astana Pro Team riders spent the whole day in the head of the peloton, however the team did not have enough effort to catch the breakaway until the finish.
Canadian rider from the breakaway Adam De Vos won the stage and also became the new leader of the race.
- It was a hard day for our riders. We did not find the teams-partners on interest in this race, therefore we had to control the race and catch the breakaway by ourselves. It was difficult to control the stage with only six riders. All the guys made a great work and gave maximum of their abilities, but working during the whole day by leading the bunch, we were able to reduce the gap between peloton and the escapers only to 1 minute and 20 seconds. Tomorrow we will have another flat stage and after tomorrow there will be the important stage with the uphill finish, which will decide the outcome of the race, - commented sports director Sergey Yakovlev afther the finish.
After the third stage Italian sprinter of Astana Pro Team Riccardo Minali moves to the fourth place of the GC, 1’19 behind the new leader of the race and Kazakh rider Yevgeniy Gidich to ninth place, 1’26 behind the De Vos.
