- Despite we have missed a good result in a stage and individual GC, I think, it was a nice race for us as a team. Some important job has been done here at the Tirreno-Adriatico and some good experience we’ve got ahead of the first big goal of the season – the Giro d’Italia. The team stayed strong and united in all moments of the race and it was a pleasure to see Astana in front, attacking or working together. So, the final team’s victory is a really nice result, which shows we are on the right way. Now we are heading into the big Classics season, which starts already this Saturday with the Milano-Sanremo. I am sure, we have a strong team to reach something big in the Classics, - said sports director Alexandr Shefer.
The final stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico, as traditionally, has been held today in San Benedetto del Tronto on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. It was a fast 10 km long race, won by the Australian Rohan Dennis, who passed the distance in 11 minutes 44 seconds. Second place took Jos van Emden, while Jonathan Castroviejo was third. Alexey Lutsenko was the best Astana performer with 31th place.
The Polish rider Michal Kwiatkowski won the final classification of the Tirreno-Adriatico-2018. The race podium was completed by Damiano Caruso (2nd place) and Geraint Thomas (3rd place). Astana’s Miguel Angel Lopez and Alexey Lutsenko became 15th and 16th, respectively.
