The Australian Rohan Dennis won the ITT, passing the distance in 14.21. This time allowed him to become the new overall leader of the race. The Spaniard Jonathan Castroviejo and another Australian Miles Scotson finished second and third, respectively, taking exactly the same places in the current general classification of the Abu Dhabi Tour.
For Astana Team leader Miguel Angel Lopez today’s short and flat time trial was a moment to minimize the loses ahead of the final queen stage to Jebel Hafeet, a tough 10-km long climb.
- So, Miguel Angel lost 49 seconds to the stage winner, Rohan Dennis, who is a well-known TT specialist. I think, it is ok on a flat and fast distance like today. Besides, he lost around of 15-20 seconds to some favorites and won 5-10 seconds to the others. With this result we are entering the final climbing stage of tomorrow. Of course, it would be difficult to win the general classification, but our main goal is to try to win the stage. The team is fully ready to support Miguel Angel tomorrow. We will do our best and let’s see if it be enough for the stage and, maybe, for a high place in the overall, - said sports director Dmitri Sedoun.
In today’s 4th stage Miguel Angel Lopez was 28th, +0.49 behind Rohan Dennis. With only one stage to go Astana captain is 21st in the general classification, the same 49 seconds far from the leader.
Tomorrow, will be held the 5th and the last stage of the Abu Dhabi Tour: 199 km from Qasr Al Muwaiji to the top of the climb Jebel Hafeet.
