- In general I’m happy with the past few days, at least about the feeling I have on the bike. The whole team has been racing very strong and that is the most important thing as the final result was not that where we came for. But we showed that we’re there, that we are ready to fight, so the spirit is good. Today I felt really good and I raced a good Time Trial, but somehow it was not good enough at the end to challenge the guys on the podium. The numbers were good, the feeling was good, and that’s what I’ll take with me to the next races, - told Jakob Fuglsang.
With Jakob Fuglsang on a fourth place at 14 seconds behind leader Tim Wellens and Luis Leon Sanchez fifth at 20’, anything was still possible in the decisive Time Trial of the Vuelta a Andalucia. A race within the race for Astana Pro Team, a race behind the strongest time trailists of the day: David de la Cruz winning in a time of 17’11”, with Andrey Amador (+6’) and Stef Clement (+7’) just behind him.
Both race leader Tim Wellens (+14’) as well as podium favorite Wout Poels (11’) finished ahead of Luis Leon Sanchez (+24’) and Jakob Fuglsang (+30’), that’s why the first two places on the podium were out of reach. With Marc Soler finishing on just 9 seconds of De la Cruz, the final GC podium was complete.
- I can't say it was a bad TT, I think it went quite good. In the first part I felt good, maybe later on the gravel part I lost a bit of rhythm. Yeah, of course, it could be better today, but in general I think that the first part of the season start went good with races in Valencia, Murcia and here in Andalucia. Now I am coming back home to rest a bit and to do some additional work to prepare for the next race: Paris - Nice, - said Luis Leon Sanchez after the final stage of the Vuelta a Andalucia.
