- The final was very hard and fast. Thanks to the team I was on a good position in front at the last kilometer. Later, with 500 meters to go Van Avermaet attacked, I tried to follow him and missed just a little to catch his wheel. Anyway, I was able to finish third and this is not bad at all. After yesterday tough stage I recovered well, but today’s stage was a really hard one with all these climbs and the heat. The team once again did a fantastic job for me. It is a big pleasure to be with these guys here in Oman, - said Alexey Lutsenko.
Thanks to Astana Team hard work in front there was made a huge selection in the main group. Inside the last kilometer the group of favorites has split in parts, while a late attack of Greg Van Avermaet brought him a stage victory. Alexey Lutsenko was close to him, finishing just 3 seconds behind at third place. Also, Magnus Cort and Astana GC hope Miguel Angel Lopez were close: Cort finished 6th (+0.07) and Lopez was 9th (+0.09).
- We did a good job as a team. All guys were strong today and we were able to control the race to help our leaders in the final part of the stage. We came in front before the last climb and increased the pace, trying to reduce the group. Also, on the descent we brought our leaders in front to be sure everything is under control. So, another podium with Alexey, but the main thing is we have a great group of riders here and the atmosphere in the team is super good, - added Omar Fraile.
Greg Van Avermaet became the new overall leader of the race, while Alexey Lutsenko moved up to second place, 11 seconds behind the leader. Miguel Angel Lopez is 7th, 25 seconds behind.
Astana still holds the lead in the team’s classification of the Tour of Oman.
Stage 4 of the race will be held tomorrow: 117,5 km from Yiti (Al Sifah) to Ministry of Tourism.
