- The crash at the end slowed me down because they crashed just in front of me. I was not in a good position for the sprint as well, we didn’t succeed in organizing a good lead-out. But nonetheless I’m happy with my second place in the GC and with the win of the Young rider Classification, it’s a good debut for me at Astana Pro Team, - told Magnus Cort after the podium ceremonies.
The final stage of the Dubai Tour was a completely flat one of 129km long, that’s why another bunch sprint was expected at the finish near Dubai’s City Walk. Right from the start a breakaway group of four riders took off to pick up the points at the intermediate sprints. But with 10km to go, all riders were caught by the peloton that was organizing itself for the final sprint.
With a crash in the final turn towards the finish, it was a chaotic sprint with Magnus Cort brought almost to the front by the team. A select group of sprinters went into the final 100 meters, but Magnus Cort was not able to sprint for the win. With an eighth place behind stage and GC winner Elia Viviani he successfully defended his second place in the GC and the first place in the Young Rider Classification.
