SuperOp is the system, that assess the athlete's recovery condition, to optimize his daily workloads and avoid overtraining.
Maurizio Mazzoleni, chief trainer of the team, explains why measuring the athlete’s condition is critical for training optimization.
- In professional cycling, athletes are rarely in the same location as their coach: with the exclusion of training camps and competitions, our cyclists train at home and away from us coaches. Knowing the “internal load” of each athlete is key to set up a personalized workout for each of the team members, - says Maurizio Mazzoleni.
SuperOp will complete the set of evaluation tools available to each coach of Astana Team: an increasingly sophisticated and precise "toolbox".
- In fact, we can say that with power meters and heart rate monitors we see what has been done, while with SuperOp we decide what will be done next, - underlines Mazzoleni.
The devices, provided by SuperOp could be also an effective tool to manage team strategy in the race.
- It will be interesting to use SuperOp during stage races, to see the condition of team members and assess strategies of attack and/or support to the leader. I'm also looking forward to seeing the high-altitude adaptation of the athletes in our altitude training camps: it will help us to better understand the reaction times of each individual cyclist, - adds Maurizio Mazzoleni.
SuperOp devices have just been delivered to all the team athletes at our training camp in Altea, Spain.
- We are particularly happy with our technical partnership with the prestigious Astana Pro Team. Our system is used in many and different sports and has already collected an impressive set of victories. This large, positive response in the highest level of cycling is a new step forward for our product, that makes us very proud, - comments Maurizio Binello from Wellness and Wireless, the company that develops and markets SuperOp.
What is SuperOp
A system consisting of a dedicated blood pressure and heart rate monitor and a simple smartphone software, SuperOp measures «the organism's metabolic stress associated with the recovery and supercompensation activities induced by training», clarifies Prof. Marco De Angelis, the physician and scientist who developed the system in over twenty-year of research on top Olympic athletes.
SuperOp is easy to read: its daily response is made of just a color (green, yellow, orange or red) and a number, the “organic readiness”, a percentage value that specifies the current capability of the athlete organism to benefit the most from a given load. «Through the “Trainer Vista” web interface, coaches can see their athletes’ conditions as they wake up. If needed they can immediately change their training plans for the day», concludes Prof. De Angelis.
