It was a fast race with many attempts of the breakaway right from the start. Anyway, the daily break of 4 riders with Andriy Grivko among them, went away only after 30 km of racing.
There were three intermediate sprints on the distance, and Grivko was able to win 4 bonus seconds, which allowed him to move up to fifth place in the overall classification.
To the final kilometers of the race all riders from the breakaway were caught and a bunch sprint decided the stage victory: the Colombian Fernando Gaviria won ahead of Dylan Groenewegen and Pascal Ackermann. Astana’s Bakhtiyar Kozhatayev finished 20th.
- In general, it was a stage without surprises. We had two goals for today – to try to go in a break and to help Artyom Zakharov in the sprint. Finally, Andriy Grivko was able to break away and to fight well in front, taking some bonuses. Artyom missed something in the sprint, maybe because of acclimatization. Tomorrow, we will try again. Our leader Jakob Fuglsang spent this day without big stress, so we are looking forward to the main mountain stage of the race, - explained sports manager Dmitriy Fofonov.
