- I am pretty happy with the result. It is nice to take a podium place in such a big race with a great history. During the whole last week I felt like I am improving step by step: last Saturday I already felt quite good at the Giro dell’Emilia, while the day before yesterday I was even better at the Tre Valli Varesine. Today, I was able to do another step ahead and to reach a podium place. The team did an incredible work for me – Karl Patrick Lauk was strong in the break, Luis Leon Sanchez and Pello Bilbao provided me a great support in the final. So, now I am looking forward to the Il Lombardia. It’s quite difficult to say what will happen on Saturday, because there are a lot of favorites, who are in really good shape. I will try to do my best and let’s see how it will be, - said Fabio Aru.
By a tradition of the last five years, the Milano – Torino has ended with a super hard climb to Basilica di Superga, done for two times. Before the second climb, Astana Team went in front to take the control over the race: Luis Leon Sanchez and Pello Bilbao did an amazing job to bring Fabio Aru in front and to provide him a good moment for attack.
Inside the last 4 km a group of leaders with Fabio Aru went away from the peloton. Later, it was the Colombian Rigoberto Uran, who launched a strong attack to win the race.
Fabio Aru tried to catch Uran for several times, but finally, finished third behind Adam Yates, who counterattacked in the last two kilometers.
Astana trainee Karl Patrick Lauk did a very good race today – despite a lot of attacks in the beginning of the race he was able to join the daily breakaway and to stay in front until the first assault of the Basilica di Superga.
