Tre Valli Varesine. Fabio Aru is 8th in Varese
Italian champion Fabio Aru took 8th place in today’s Italian classic race Tre Valli Varesine (193 km), which has been held in the city of Varese.

Astana leader counterattacked on the final climb with around 3 km to go, following the attack of Italian Vincenzo Nibali and French rider Thibaut Pinot. On the descent a few riders joined Aru to try to catch also two leaders in front.
Finally, before the last km of the race just two riders were able to bridge in front – Alexandre Geniez and Diego Ulissi. In the sprint it was Geniez, who took the win ahead of Pinot and Nibali.
Fabio Aru finished 7 seconds later in the next chasing group, taking 8th place.
- In general, the race was not bad at all, the team did a good job and in the final I had some power to attack on the climb. But, in the end I missed something to bridge in front. In this part of the season it is not easy to be at 100%. Anyway, there are still two races this week, I will try to do my best, - said Fabio Aru.
- Fabio was our leader for this race, and we planned to wait until the last lap to try to attack. The team did a very good race: Jesper Hansen was really strong, also Luis Leon Sanchez and other guys did it well. The team brought Fabio in front before the climb, where our captain gave his all for a better result, - added sports director Stefano Zanini.
