The 20th stage of La Vuelta 2017 has been a very tough one with the finish line on the top of Alto de L’Angliru and bad weather all over the 117 km of race.
Unfortunately it has not been a good day for our riders who finished distanced from the GC contenders.
Heavy rain since the start and high speed to try to take away from the bunch a breakaway, drove to the Alto de Cobertoria with a peloton very stretched.
In the subsequent descent, super high speed and much water on the road caused some ‘holes’ in the bunch and our guys were back.
Then it became a long run-up to try to catch the bunch that didn’t lead to the hoped result.
On the finish line, Miguel Angel Lopez lost 3:56 and two positions in the GC where now he is 8th.
Fabio Aru crossed the finish line with a bigger gap and he turned down in 13th position in the GC.
One a positive note, the Astana Pro Team kept the leadership in the Teams Classification at one day from the finish of La Vuelta.
Today stage has been won by the Spaniard Alberto Contador and the British Christopher Froome kept the Red Jersey.
Tomorrow, 21st and last stage of La Vuelta 2017 with the traditional catwalk in Madrid where the sprinters should fight for the stage victory.
