Today the sun has return to shine on La Vuelta 2017: the 12th stage had in the menu more than 2500 meters in positive drop concentrated in the last 80 km.
As always in this year’s Vuelta, first hour of race very fast and then the breakaway took a gap.
In the peloton our guys were working perfectly to keep Fabio Aru and Miguel Angel Lopez at the front.
There was some selection in the last climb of the day, with Aru, Lopez and Pello Bilbao who maintained to front positions.
While Contador was at the attack with 30 secs advantage, the Red Jersey, Christopher Froome, falt two times and lost several seconds from the GC contenders group.
One of the attackers was able to cross the finish line all alone and won the stage: it was the Polish Tomasz Marczynski, at his second stage won in this Vuelta.
Fabio Aru and Miguel Angel Lopez concluded 23rd and 15th respectively and they earned 20 seconds on the Red Jersey: in the GC now Aru is 7th at 2:37 and Lopez 10th at 3:51.
Pello Bilbao, after another great job done for the Team, concluded 31st, just few seconds after the GC guys.
“This is my fourth time at La Vuelta – explained Bilbao – during the first week of race I was not particularly at ease, on the flat stages with wind and high speed… but I knew that after the rest day, I could improve a lot.”
“In the last two, three days I started to feel much better and I could be of an help for my Team – added the Basque rider – in climbing I’m back to the level I was at the Tour de Suisse in last June, this was what I aimed to in this Vuelta.”
Tomorrow, 13th stage of La Vuelta 2017, Coín – Tomares (198.4 km), with some hills in the first part and flat in the second half: the last km is not entirely flat but it should be an affair fro the sprinters.
