Long and hot day for the riders of La Vuelta 2017 in the fourth stage that started from Andorra La Vella and ended in Tarragona after 211 km (198.5 of race).
As prevented, there has been a breakaway that characterized almost the entire day and ended not far from the finish line.
On that point it became a matter for sprinter’s teams.
High speed and some narrow turns caused several fall but thanks to the good team job of our guys, the captain remained in the front position and avoided any risk.
“Today’s goal was to avoid any risk and conclude the stage all safe – commented the sport director Dmitriy Sedoun – our riders did a very good team job today and we are satisfied by this.”
“In a grand Tour this kind of stage seems very easy on the profile but normally there could be some hidden traps – continued Sedoun – today we payed much attention in some crucial points that could have been potentially dangerous and everything went well.”
The winner of today sprint has been the Italian Matteo Trentin who conquered also the Green Jersey of the Points Classification. Unchanged the General Classification.
The first Astana Pro Team rider on the finish line today was Fabio Aru (18th) whom kept the 7th position in GC at 38 seconds from the leader.
Tomorrow, first uphill final of this La Vuelta: Benicàssim – Alcossebre (175.7 km and 2733 meters of positive drop). Five mountain prizes, the last one of which, the Ermita Sta. Lucia has the stage finish line on the top: it will be an important test in this first week of race for the GC contenders.
