Moreno Moser attacked from the peloton, joining two riders from early break with more or less 60 km to go. When this attack was neutralized, at a climb it was Truls Korsaeth who launched a new attack together with two more riders with 45 km to go.
Korsaeth’s group was able to get an advantage of 25 seconds, holding the lead during 30 km. At the last climb of 220,9 km distance the group of Truls Korsaeth was caught, while some new riders went away with Matti Breschel and Oscar Gatto among them.
Anyway, despite all attacks, the peloton came back together to the last few kilometers, so a bunch sprint decided the race.
- I think we can be happy with the way we did this race. Our riders were very active, especially in the final. We tried our best in attacks. Well, finally, it did not work because it was a route for sprinters, but anyway, we tried doing a very nice race. Unfortunately, Riccardo Minali was blocked behind because of some crashes, but that’s cycling, - said sports director Stefano Zanini.
Italian Elia Viviani won the race ahead of Arnaud Demare and Dylan Groenewegen. Kazakh rider Ruslan Tleubayev was the best Astana performer at the finish with 18th position.
