The Italian champion, together with his teammate Miguel Angel Lopez, arrived with the first group of 25 riders at the finish line of La Punta / El Cabildo. The Dutch Peter Koning won the stage ahead of the group a minute and a half gaining also the leader's jersey.
In the overall standings, Lopez and Nibali are respectively ninth and tenth position with a gap of 39 seconds from the leadership.
"It 'been a good day - commented the sports director Alexandr Shefer - the team has responded well to the first test more challenging, too bad for falls Valerio Agnoli, Michele Scarponi and Lopez fortunately without consequences".
Tomorrow with the fourth stage the race goes live. The finish will be at the top of Cerro El Almago (1700 meters of altitude) after a climb of 10 km with an average gradient of 7.2%. A long and difficult climb that will say who can win the tenth edition of the Tour de San Luis.
