The holding of EXPO-2017 International Exhibition in the city of Astana is one of key national projects of Kazakhstan. The initiative of organizing such a grand event in the capital of our country belongs to Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of Kazakhstan.
The international authority and full support of the Head of state were important factors of triumph of the city of Astana in the process of voting for the right to hold the EXPO.
Owing to the personal control of the President of Kazakhstan the project for the holding of exhibition is developed quickly and successfully. A great job has been performed during two years after the recognition of Astana as a host city of EXPO-2017, including the establishment of Astana EXPO - 2017 National Company, the approval of Registration dossier, the selection of the winner of international architectural contest for the best project of exhibition complex, the adoption of law on the organization and holding of the EXPO.
The future exhibition became a real national project involving all regions of the country.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Head of state made an appeal to the citizens of Kazakhstan emphasizing that the decision on holding EXPO-2017 in the city of Astana is a historical event.
“All the states of the world exhibit their best technological, scientific and cultural achievements at EXPO exhibitions. They form a new agenda of global development. Millions of people from dozens of countries from all the continents are visited such events. The victory of the city of Astana in the tough competition is far from accidental. First, it is the recognition of our capital as a centre worthy to hold the world event. Secondly, the choice in favor of Kazakhstan testifies to the high assessment of the success of our state and emphasizes the prospects for its development, as well as the entire Eurasian region. Thirdly, the victory was provided by the relevance of the proposed theme – “Future Energy”. And most importantly, the selection of the city of Astana was the result of efforts of all the people of Kazakhstan”, stated the President of Kazakhstan.
Nursultan Nazarbayev congratulated all the people of Kazakhstan on the victory assigning a task: to hold EXPO-2017 at a decent level. The President of Kazakhstan expressed confidence that our state would meet that high mission.
“It is not only an examination for our country. The exhibition will make it possible to reveal our creative potential. The EXPO in the city of Astana will stimulate the innovative development of the Republic, said the Head of state.
The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan established Astana EXPO-2017 National Company by the order in January 2013 for the coordination of activities of all the public and private entities, sponsors, regions, ministries and agencies.
For the purpose of determination of the best project for exhibition complex there was a special contest which was attended by over 50 architects from different countries of the world. The contest was won by Adrian Smith+Gordon Gill Architecture LLP, an American company. It was taken into account that this company has a huge experience not only in construction but also in the field of “green economy”.
The main building of the EXPO is the national pavilion of Kazakhstan which will be built in the form of a sphere using the most advanced technologies. In the process of its construction it will be applied durable high-tech glasses with a double layer that will make it possible to isolate the building from outside temperatures and sound. This pavilion will be a model project based on the use of “green technologies”.
Inside the sphere, in addition to the high technology museum there will be a museum representing the history of the country and the history of the people of Kazakhstan.
The Head of state gave a start to the construction of EXPO town on the 24th of April 2014 taking part in the ceremony of laying of the exhibition complex capsule.
The total area of Astana EXPO-2017 exhibition complex is 174 hectares. It is planned to build 38 objects in total. The exhibition area will include the National Pavilion of Kazakhstan, international, thematic and corporate pavilions, and trade-entertainment facilities. It is planned to construct a conference center, press center, covered city, residential houses and hotels outside the exhibition area. All the facilities are planned to put into operation in September 2016. Such a task was imposed by Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Head of state on the National Company.
In addition to preparation to the exhibition the National Company was assigned a task for the operation and use of the exhibition facilities after its completion. It is planned that constructed pavilions and other facilities after the exhibition completion will have a second life. “On the basis of high-tech infrastructure of EXPO-2017 will be created Astana Financial Centre with a special status”, said Nursultan Nazarbayev, the President of the country.
Currently, an active work related to the promotion of EXPO-2017 abroad is carrying out. Official invitations on behalf of the President of the country were sent to 139 countries and 12 international organizations.
Currently, 66 states on the whole (Russia, Germany, UK, Japan, Turkey, Israel, France, China, India, Vietnam, Armenia, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Angola, Belarus, Senegal, Georgia, Cuba, Turkmenistan, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Liberia, Tajikistan, North Korea, Romania, Monaco) and 13 international organizations (ESCAP, OECD, UNIDO, UNESCO, IAEA, World Bank, UNDP) have confirmed their participation at the exhibition.
It is planned in this year to receive up to 80 confirmations of countries of their participation in the EXPO. Visits to the states of Europe, America and Asia have been planned.
